Assets & Opportunity Network Advocacy Community
The Assets & Opportunity Network is a national, movement-oriented group of advocates, practitioners, policymakers and others working to expand the reach and deepen the impact of asset-based strategies. The Network is both an advocacy community and a learning community, increasing participation in the policy process at all levels of government, as well as connecting the assets field nationally to improve service delivery and innovation.
The Network fosters advocacy and policy engagement by facilitating information sharing among Network members about key policy issues and successful advocacy campaigns, and equipping advocates with the tools and resources to educate and influence policymakers. The advocacy community is meant to provide opportunities to take action and includes the Network's federal, state and local policy agendas; advocacy resources; and policy updates and recent action.
For more information about any of the opportunities below, please contact the Assets & Opportunity Team.
The policy issues included here reflect both the Assets & Opportunity Network's Federal Policy Agenda, as well as many of the state and local priorities identified by individual Network Leaders.
The Network’s Federal Policy Agenda for the 114th Congress reflects the issues that matter most to Network members and those that are moveable in the current political context. Priorities include Tax Reform, Children’s Savings, Consumer Protections, Asset Limits, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Assets for Independence and Administrative Advocacy.
Network Leaders develop their own policy agendas to address issues in their particular state or local context. Common policy issues include tax credits for working families, prevention of predatory short-term lending, Individual Development Accounts, eliminating asset limits in public benefit programs and financial education in schools.

The policy landscape is constantly changing and it can be a challenge to stay up to date and find ways to get involved. The Take Action page is a one-stop shop for all current policy actions. The Take Action page also compiles all past actions taken by the Network to promote federal asset-building policies. Past actions include sign-on letters and surveys to help shape the direction of the Network.
